19-year-old Tommy (Anson Boon) revels in his life of crime, constantly egging his friends on to commit acts of brutal violence and boasting about it on social media—until, one night, he is abducted by a stranger. When Tommy wakes up, he finds himself chained in the basement of a secluded suburban home, where his abductor, Chris (Stephen Graham), lives with his wife, Kathryn (Andrea Riseborough), and their young son, Jonathan. The family goes to extreme lengths to "reform" Tommy's unruly behavior, subjecting him to numerous psychological games in an attempt to turn him into a "good boy."
